An open forum will follow to discuss the formation of a consistent Christian political philosophy that respects free will and freedom.

Notes Jerry Moore, the Forest Service's regional law enforcement chief: "We arrest people, but new players move in." What Really Happened to the Signers?

Kate posted a link on 4th of July about the terrible things that later happened to the Declaration's signers. "Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in rags," etc, etc. It's an old urban legend, passed on through email and online ad nauseum.

I haven't been able to find good, clean rebuttals besides the two below. And, I couldn't find the first one as an actual Ann Landers column. The second one seems legit, however.

Here's the link to the Washington Research Library Consortium. All of the libraries have different entrance policies; some are harder to get into than others. As a GWU student, let me warn you that GW's Gelman Library is a fortress of doom. Good luck with your research.

Not that Marcie will actually see this, but I felt it hypocritcal to mass email a clarification.
I did not in any way mean to single out Marcie or her emails, it was just the last one and so I replied to it.
Im sorry if my suggestion seemed aimed at anyone in particular--it wasnt.
And I do appreciate being alerted to events in the area--I would just rather see it on a blog rather than have it clutter my email.
Hopefully I have not caused some irreparable rift in the Koch fellowship between the bloggers and the spammers.
I am wondering though how it is easier to check email than a blog...well whatever, rather than be left unaware of what is going on in Koch-land I guess I will have to deal with the spam.

Massachusetts is a great state. A friend of mine who is starting law school in the fall is receiving unemployment over the summer - $482 a week - and they'll probably let him keep it through part of the school year, because law school is apparently "job training." Fun. The best part is, this guy's been collecting social security his whole life because his dad died. It doesn't matter that his mom remarried and has lots of money.

AND he used to work in John Kerry's office. I need new friends.

The room for the Tuesday, June 24 talk is 122 Cannon House Office Building. When you come out of the Capitol South metro, you are on 1st St. Go up the street and enter the Cannon building at that corner entrance which is 1st St. and C St. Once you go through the medal detectors, take a right and 122 will be the first door on your right. Adrian (one of our interns) will be in the room waiting for you. We have the room starting at 5:30 pm. Dr. Paul's lecture will begin at 6. Please make arrangements with your internship director about leaving early enough to get there on time.

So said Julian Simon, not to be confused with Julian Sanchez, who led a few discussion groups at the Annapolis seminar. I wanted to introduce a classical liberal organization that might interest you internationally-minded Fellows.

The Liberty Institute, otherwise known as the Julian L. Simon Centre, is located in New Delhi, India. If you aren't familiar with the works of Julian Simon, this would be a great summer to start. Cato has published a few of his books.

A joke about sex laws.

COUPLE IN A CAR
A cop was patrolling near midnight at a local parking spot overlooking a golf course. He drove by a car and saw a couple inside with the dome light on. There was a young man in the driver's seat reading a computer magazine and a young lady in the back seat calmly knitting. He stopped to investigate. He walked up to the driver's window and knocked. The young man looked up, obligingly cranked the window down, and said, "Yes,officer?" "What are you doing?" the policeman asked. "What does it look like?" answered the young man. "I'm reading this magazine." Pointing toward the young lady in the back seat, the officer then asked, "And what is she doing?" The young man looked over his shoulder and replied, "I think she's knitting a sweater." Confused, the officer asked, "How old are you, young man?" "I'm 19," he replied. "And how old is she?" asked the officer. The young man looked at his watch and said, "Well, in about 12 minutes she'll be 16."

The Frederic Bastiat Prize for Journalism

The International Policy Network is awarding the Frederic Bastiat Prize for Journalism to recognize and reward writers whose published works promote the institution of a free society.
